Here are some key reasons why we would like you to consider BaySail:
- ASA CERTIFICATION – BaySail offers a full range of American Sailing Association (ASA) courses. ASA provides a stepped approach to learning to sail — as you take courses you gain skills and become certified to skipper different sized boats. ASA certification is recognized worldwide by sailing professionals and yacht charter companies and it ensures that our school complies with a comprehensive program.
- SMALL CLASS SIZE – BaySail classes are limited to four students affording plenty of personal attention. Our instructors are mature, experienced and qualified. They love their jobs and it shows!
- FIRST CLASS BOATS – BaySail uses new or recent model sailboats that are chosen to give you the best possible sailing experience. All BaySail boats are fully equipped, impeccably maintained and sparkling clean (you could eat off our decks!). After completing your course, you can practice your newly acquired skills on a variety of daysailers and yachts that are available for rent/charter from BaySail at a discounted rate for graduates. Please see our website for photos.
- LOCATED ON THE CHESAPEAKE BAY – Located just minutes off I-95 in the historic town of Havre de Grace, only 45 minutes from Baltimore and an hour from Philadelphia, BaySail offers an ideal venue for a variety of sailing instruction. The Havre de Grace harbor features protected waters for beginner courses while the greater Chesapeake Bay ensures challenges for more experienced students. Free shuttle from train station is available.
- RATE DISCOUNTS AND OPTIONS – As shown below, BaySail offers significant discounts if your booking includes two or more students. Plus our rates include course materials, ASA certification and taxes. BaySail also has a “Per Group” rate that offers a discounted inclusive price for up to four people and gives you the boat and instructor exclusively.
- WOMEN ONLY CLASSES – BaySail offers women only Basic Sailing (ASA 101) and Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103) in a comfortable setting with a woman instructor.
If you are thinking that you would like to try sailing but you are not ready to tackle the certification level, then this class is just what you are looking for. Structured as either a full or half day class, one of our professional instructors will teach you the basics of sailing - tacking, jibing, points of sail, parts of the boat, rigging, etc. Take the helm and experience the joy of sailing. This is a perfect for family outings or quality time with friends. Makes a great gift too! Classes are offered on both weekdays and weekends throughout the season

This is a non certification class
During this course, you will receive instruction in such basic skills as preparation of the boat, rigging, hoisting and setting sails, Rules of the Road, and Points of Sail. You'll enjoy seven hours a day on the water and get plenty of hands-on training including open water sailing, docking, anchoring, and mooring as well as VHF Radio and outboard motor operation. In this course, we use Capri 22's which are very responsive, stable and easy to sail. The Capri features a large cockpit with plenty of leg room and a cabin below deck to stow gear. It's always best to learn the basics of sailing on a boat like the Capri 22 because it is not intimidating and gives students a much better feel for the wind than a large charter boat. Upon graduation you will receive ASA certification and you will be ready to safely and confidently skipper boats in the 25 ft. range. You will also receive 15% off your first boat rental so that you can practice your new skills. 3 day weekday classes are held Monday through Wednesday. Weekend courses are held over two extended days Saturday and Sunday or three standard days Friday through Sunday. Fee includes one year ASA membership and its benefits and discounts.
