American Sailing Association Gold Standard Rating

Gold Standard

Driven by a clear need for uniform teaching standards and increased access to sailing activities, the American Sailing Association (ASA) has grown to include a national network of professionally accredited sailing schools. ASA schools have met rigorous standards which are internationally recognized.

ASA certification facilities give sailors of all experience levels an opportunity to become more competent and confident in their abilities. ASA offers a stepped approach to learning to sail -- as you take courses you gain skills and become certified to skipper different sized boats. If you choose to venture beyond the basics, we'll expand your horizons by teaching you to navigate with electronics and with the stars. Become certified at advanced or offshore levels and the world's oceans will become your highways and by-ways. You can learn it all or select the things that interest you the most. Selecting an ASA school assures you of professional training and the best value for your sail education dollar.

ASA affiliated schools now graduate and certify thousands of new sailors annually - sailors who learn faster, learn more and have more fun sailing in more new places. They choose ASA schools because they want to follow a proven curriculum in a professional, supportive learning environment under the direction of certified instructors. The American Sailing Association can assure you of the same quality sailing education when you attend any of our certification facilities.

In its on-going work for safer boating worldwide, the ASA has instituted the Gold Standard. Each school designated as a Gold Standard Recipient has had Vessel Safety Checks performed on boats used for instruction. The U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary performs these checks as a public service on recreational boats throughout the U. S.
